Bernal Heights Park - Perfect hike in the city

Time flies and I’ve already been living in San Francisco for almost 6 (!) weeks. I spent week 4 preparing for my official start at UCSF on Monday the 26th.

Dolores Park

In the weekend, we celebrated my roommate’s birthday and on Sunday we were invited to a brunch in Dolores Park with the Innovation Center Denmark (ICDK). Dolores Park is such a fun place to enjoy the sun and hang out with friends. We had an amazing morning with all the Danish students from ICDK – we are about 20 students in different fellowships and internships. After the brunch and a lovely ice-cream from the Garden Creamery we hiked to the top of Bernal Heights.

In week 5 I started working at UCSF and all my colleagues are lovely and incredibly welcoming. I’m starting to learn about their project and I’m working with my amazing mentor team on deciding on the perfect project that I can work on for the next 10 months. In the mean time I'm coding qualitative data and learning about the American health care system.

Golden Gate Bridge - The view from Sausalito

In the labour day weekend we had a staycation in San Francisco with the lavender house. We cycled from our house in Outer Sunset through Golden Gate Park and across Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. In the evening we went to a drag show at The Oasis in San Francisco – one of the most fun experiences I’ve had here.

Sausalito Taco Shop - amazing Mexican food

The next day we went to a supermarket in Berkeley (my roommate wanted to show us the vegetable and fruit heaven of Berkeley Bowl – I’m obsessed). We bought everything for a picnic and went to Lake Anza to spend the rest of the day.

Finally Jas and I went for a hike in San Pedro Valley with our friend Nate. The views on the hike were incredible and the fog made it almost magical.

In week 6 we went to an event called Stambord where a lot of Danes meet up at a danish business in the Bay area. This time we visited Vivino (the wine app) on the 20th floor in downtown San Francisco. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to hear about Vivino this time but instead I talked to the person behind an app called GoLittleEats. I was very impressed by their product – such a helpful app for families (and everyone else) that organises food shopping and cooking – I’ll definitely try it when I get back to Denmark.

This week I got some amazing news! Rikke (sister) is arriving in San Francisco in 12 days, Mathias (boyfriend) has tickets to visit me in a month (exactly – not that I’m counting the days) and Nina (one of my best friends who I’ve known for 9 years) and her boyfriend are visiting in January – What a week! I can't wait to introduce them all to my American life and especially my roommates.

I hope you're having a good time in Denmark - I miss you all!
