Times flies here in the US and I can’t believe it’s already mid-November. October flew by so quickly and I had the most amazing visits from Denmark. First my sister was here which I told you about in my post about Tuolumne County. Then I had one week to get a lot of work done (and I squeezed in a trip to Lassen with Jas) before my boyfriend Mathias arrived and we hopped in a car and drove to the City of Angels, Los Angeles.

Big Sur (one of the beautiful places you pass when driving Highway 1). I took this photo a few weeks later on another trip (more on this later).

We drove down Highway 1 which is one of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever experienced. I took exactly zero photos to document this so I guess you’ll just have to drive it yourself (or Google it).

In the two weeks Mathias was here we experienced so many lovely things; the cheerful atmosphere at Santa Monica Pier, paddle boarding in Newport Beach, American football in LA Memorial Coliseum, college football at Stanford University, basketball in the new Chase Center in San Francisco, and driving Go Cars around the beautiful San Francisco streets.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel

In LA we stayed one night at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel where both Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have filmed music videos. We had no idea before booking it so that was a fun surprise.

The Saddleridge Fire seen from Santa Monica Pier

I also got to experience some of the not-so-nice parts of living in California which is wildfires and earthquakes – but let’s skip that for now. Right now I’m just so thankful for all the brave firefighters who have been fighting the fires.

Viking costumes (100 % homemade and found in secondhand stores)

I spent the rest of October working on my research project (which will start coming together in a few weeks), celebrating Halloween with my roommates as vikings, and I ended the month in Carmel by the sea and Big Sur with Jas. This post is already so long so I guess I’ll make a separate post on that trip. As a spoiler I can say that Big Sur is incredibly beautiful and that Carmel is my favourite California town so far.
